What happened at the Capitol was not a riot
White male angst is regularly heard and acted on. The confederate flag shows this for what it was, a white insurrectionist mob.
What happened at the Capitol was not a "riot." The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's quote is "...a riot is the language of the unheard." But the insurrectionists were not unheard. A national news channel is dedicated to airing their lies & grievances. A competitor peddles far worse, hoping to lure watchers.
They were incited by the POTUS, with the White House as the backdrop. A man who at the time had several methods of mainlining his white supremacist drivel directly into their brains. Some might say they were conned or lied to, but many would still say, today, that they are right.
White supremacy is not unheard, it is not unseen, it does not hold a valid grievance. White supremacy is everywhere in our country. From the statues, to the systems, from coast to coast, from 1619 to 2021, white supremacy is infused in our lives, our society, our county.
They are not unheard. It was not a riot. It was a insurrection. It was a coup. It was not attempted, it was, it existed, but it failed. But that doesn't mean it's over. They have been heard, and rejected, by the majority of the country.
And for those in power who supported them, we must hold them accountable. Send the message actions have consequences. We must expel them from their elected positions, to let the insurrectionist mob know: We heard you, and you were wrong.
